They call me "Blueberry Kerri"

Ok, let me explain the title to todays blog. All thru my life I have been heavy but during my teen years, I developed a taste for wearing blue. Anything that was blue and every shade of blue. My brother Kris, being a stinky older brother (like most are LOL) had to make fun of everything I did. Well you take a chubby teen and then add lots of blue, you get "Blueberry Kerri", it is catchy and it rhymes! Of course, he could not just tease me at home, he had to take it on vacation with us. For several months, we went up to a little tiny mining town by the name of Jarbidge, NV. We had friends that we'd known all our lives that lived there. A Mom, Dad, 2 boys and 1 girl. The parents of course didn't do much to help the spread of my new nickname but the kids did. All summer long it was hey "Blueberry" what do you want to do today? or hey "bananaberry kerri" do you want to go on a bike ride? (Depending on the color of my shirt!).  The one nickname I hated the most was "Eggplant Kerri", it did not rhyme and have you seen one of those veggies-not a pretty site. LOL  After that disaster, I did not wear purple shirts anymore!
It is funny, we all are grown now, we all have families and spouses and we all live in different states but anytime we get together or happen to be talking to someone from that time in our lives, it ALWAYS comes up--how is "Blueberry Kerri"?  I am still heavy, at 34yrs old and I do love blue (I am actually wearing blue now LMAO) so I guess the name still fits but don't tell my brother--he would never let me hear the end of it!!

  3. Hi Kerri,
That is a great story. Older brothers and sisters are great for those nicknames. I can't even write the name that my older sisters game me as a kid. I'm just happy it didn't stick:) Did it bother you at the time or were you able to laugh with him? Hopefully you came up with a good name for him also.
Thanks for sharing that story, it made me laugh:)

  4. Thanks for all the great feedback on my story. I was a little embarrassed to post it but then thought, I bet everyone has had to go through this at one time or another. When they first started calling me Blueberry Kerri I was alright with it but then when it became the only thing that all of them called me, I really got sick of it. I had lots of nick names for my brother but I kept them to myself, (if I would have said them, I think my Dad would have washed out my mouth with soap and whooped my butt LOL) he had a learning disorder (dyslexia) while he was growing up and got called lots of names by other rude people so I did not want to add to that. To really think about it, I was a pretty good little sister LMAO...he probably doesn't think so!

  5. You know I loved this story. When I was 13 a boy asked me what my middle name was. I told him it was Elizabeth. I had a green shirt on. He called me Ashleigh Elizabeth the Lizard. Later it was Lizzy the Lizard. So, funny, ya I can definitly relate. I was mortifyed at first but got over it. I just talked to thid boy Dustin today. He is still a good friend and still teases me. Weird I have a story similar to that. LOL I can specifically remember trying to avoid wearing green shirts!

  7. Hi Professor, my Mom is a huge fan of frogs too. She has frogs all over her home. From candle holders, soap holders, nick nacks, garden things, everything...to clothes.
